Meet Jacqui, a Mexican multidisciplinary artist and model who consistently collaborates with some of the most prominent brands in the industry. It’s her mix of tight focus and raw emotional intelligence that turns her performances into story-driven experiences.
We share a very special connection: having had the privilege of photographing her for a huge campaign earlier this year, I witnessed firsthand the absolute magic she creates on set. In this interview, we dive into her creative thoughts, the importance of protecting her identity in the age of AI, and how she navigates constantly moving between artistic visions while remaining entirely true to her genuine self.
How do you protect your own identity while acting as the face of constantly changing creative visions? / ¿De qué manera proteges tu propia identidad mientras actúas como el rostro de visiones creativas que cambian constantemente?
I often work with creative visions that connect with my personal style, and when they don't, I take it as an opportunity to discover myself in those new directions. I love working with risky and rebellious proposals that invite me into new worlds. I love the creative process and the challenge of how Jacqui embodies that new character. At the end of the day, that is what makes the process exciting and fun for me: to keep growing as an artist. Ultimately, I never leave my identity behind; I use it as a guide, seeing what I can contribute from my most genuine side. Now, with AI, protecting our image has become a more complicated issue than it already was. As models and actors, we need to defend and care for our identity. We need regulation on the use of AI to protect our image and to ensure that brands do not keep our information for future projects. This issue is very concerning, and we need to have a firm stance on it, establishing clear work values with ourselves and with the client.
Suelo trabajar muy seguido con visiones creativas que conectan con mi estilo personal, y cuando no es así, lo tomo como una oportunidad para descubrirme en esas nuevas direcciones. Me encanta trabajar con propuestas arriesgadas y rebeldes que me inviten a nuevos mundos. Me encanta el proceso creativo y el reto de como Jacqui encarna ese nuevo personaje. Al final del día, eso es lo que vuelve el proceso emocionante y divertido para mí, seguir creciendo como artista. Al final nunca dejo mi identidad detrás, la uso como guía, veo en qué puedo aportar desde mi lado más genuino. Ahora con la IA proteger nuestra imagen se ha convertido en un tema más complicado de lo que ya solía ser. Modelos y actores necesitamos defender y cuidar de nuestra identidad. Necesitamos una regularización del uso de la IA para proteger nuestra imagen y que las marcas no se queden con nuestra información para futuros proyectos. Ese tema es muy preocupante y necesitamos tener una postura firme sobre ello, tener valores de trabajo claros con nosotros mismos y con el cliente.

How has what you project today changed compared to your early years? / ¿De qué manera ha cambiado lo que proyectas hoy, en comparación con tus primeros años?
Today, I project with more conviction; I am confident in my proposals and what I am conveying. I like to give a narrative and meaning to every project I am a part of. The early years are usually about trial and error.
Hoy proyecto con más convicción, tengo seguridad sobre mis propuestas y lo que estoy transmitiendo. Me gusta darle una narrativa y un sentido a cada proyecto del que soy parte. Los primeros años suelen ser de prueba y error.
Does your body language and performance on set come from your intuition, or is it something you have been refining as a discipline? / ¿Tu lenguaje corporal y performance en set nace de tu intuición o es algo que has ido refinando como una disciplina?
Both. Being present on set and working collectively requires a lot of discipline. Being on set is like a choreography; it's a place where we all must understand the dance and flow together. It is a space of creation that should feel familiar and safe for everyone. The body conveys so much more than we can sometimes realize, which is why it's important to take care of our energy and our emotions. It is an important part of being a performer; this job can become very physically and mentally demanding, and we have to care for and protect our greatest instrument.
Ambas, el estar presente en set y trabajar en colectivo requiere mucha disciplina. Estar en el set es como una coreografía, es un lugar en los que todos debemos comprender el baile y fluir juntos. Es un lugar de creación que debe sentirse familiar y seguro para todos. El cuerpo transmite muchísimo más de lo que a veces podemos darnos cuenta, por eso es importante estar cuidando nuestra energía y nuestras emociones, es parte importante de ser un ente escénico, este trabajo puede llegar a ser muy demandante física y mentalmente, tenemos que cuidar y proteger de nuestro mayor instrumento.

What advice would you give to young people who aspire to be professional models like you? / ¿Qué consejo le darías a chicos que aspiran a ser modelo profesionales como tú?
First of all, learn to enjoy the process. At the beginning, it can seem very overwhelming, but it is all about practice and drive. Take care of yourself, inside and out. Look for opportunities, whether by going to castings, seeking representation, or building up your materials (home projects, polaroids, shoots, videos, demo reels, castings). Opportunities find us when we are looking for them; they don't just fall from the sky. We also have to learn from rejection: at the end of the day, nothing is personal. We can learn a lot from a "No." We need to be prepared for when an opportunity arrives so we can take it. Every day we can continue expanding our skills and growing as artists by nourishing ourselves with other disciplines. It is surprising how any other hobby can go hand in hand with this career; everything adds up. Start building a strong identity regarding the projects you would like to work on and how to make them happen. Something I would recommend to everyone, even if they don't want to be actors or models, is theater classes. Theater helps you to be present, to connect with others, to improvise, and to know yourself. It sounds cliché, but it is very beautiful how much you can learn about yourself through theater. It helps us understand ourselves as individuals within the collective human experience.
Primero que nada aprender a disfrutar del proceso, al principio puede parecer muy abrumante pero todo es práctica y ganas. Cuiden de su persona, interna y externamente. Busquen oportunidades, ya sea haciendo castings, buscando representación, haciéndose de sus materiales (proyectos caseros, polas, shoots, videos, demo reels, castings), las oportunidades nos encuentran cuando las estamos buscando, no solo llegan del cielo. También tenemos que aprender del rechazo, al final del día nada es personal. Podemos aprender mucho del No. Tenemos que estar preparados para cuando llegue alguna oportunidad y tomarla. Todos los días podemos seguir expandiendo nuestras habilidades y seguir creciendo como artistas nutriéndonos de otras disciplinas, es sorprendente como cualquier otro hobby puede llevarse de la mano en esta carrera, todo suma. Empiecen a crear una identidad fuerte de en qué proyectos les gustaría trabajar y como hacerlo. Algo que yo le recomendaría a toda la gente incluso si no quisieran ser actrices o modelos son las clases de teatro. El teatro te ayuda a estar presente, a conectar con el otro, a improvisar, a conocernos a nosotros mismos, suena cliché pero es muy lindo lo que se puede llegar a conocer uno mismo a través del Teatro. Nos ayuda a entendernos como individuos en la experiencia humana colectiva.
